Sara Hailu Sheerin has 15 years of piano teaching experience and holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Wheaton College. In addition to studying piano with Daniel Paul Horn, she studied conducting and composition with Daniel Sommerville. While at Wheaton she was a member of the Concert Choir and piano accompanist for the Women's Chorale. She enjoys collaborating with vocalists and playing chamber music with string and woodwind players. Inspired by the curiosity and energy of very young children, Ms. Sara completed teacher certification with Musikgarten in 2011. She recently moved to Austin from the Chicago area, and spent her childhood in Northern Virginia and Ethiopia.

"Playing the piano has been a great source of happiness for me since childhood. I love to share this passion with others and am thrilled to equip students with the skills to make the music their own. Children have endless creativity and inspire me to continually learn how to think of music and life in new ways."

As an active member of the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association (CAMTA) from 2001-2012, Ms. Sara's students have had opportunities to play annually at CAMTA events such as the Jazz Festival in Chicago and have placed as gold medalists in the Sonatina Festival for three consecutive years. As a piano teacher, Ms. Sara maintains a high standard with all students. Outings to attend local concerts, group piano parties in Ms. Sara's home, recitals, festivals and competitions are an important part of student enrichment.

When not teaching in the studio or practicing piano, Ms. Sara enjoys exploring the beauty and variety of the natural spaces around Austin, reading 20th Century fiction and loves to make crafts with her children. She is a certified Musikgarten instructor, a member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), TMTA (Texas Music Teachers Association), and ADMTA (Austin District Music Teachers Association).
